Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
When you bring your child for pelvic floor therapy you want to be able to prepare and reassure them. We will have a thorough discussion of your child’s history and symptoms including their bowel and bladder habits. We will assess their posture, mobility, and core/pelvic floor strength. The pelvic floor may be assessed visually or with the help of biofeedback equipment. Parents stay with their kids during the first and every appointment.
It’s perfectly normal to feel nervous about your first therapy session! The first thing we will do is spend some time discussing your concerns and establishing your goals. You will receive a thorough functional evaluation to identify any mobility or strength deficits that may contribute to your problem. In some cases, internal assessment of the pelvic floor muscles may be a valuable part of the evaluation. However, much can also be assessed externally and this aspect of your care is completely in your hands and will be based on your level of comfort.

The idea that kegels are the one and only answer to avoiding bladder leaks is a myth. Yes, its good to have a strong pelvic floor, but its better to have a well coordinated pelvic floor that functions properly as part of a system. In other words, muscle have to be taught to relax too!
